Over the past four decades, I have lived and breathed this craft, shaping characters that resonate across generations, collaborating with some of the finest minds in theatre and film, and using my voice to elevate African storytelling to a global stage. But beyond the applause and the accolades, my greatest fulfillment comes from the lives touched, the young artists mentored, the barriers broken, and the industry transformed.
I am an international, multi-award-winning actress, director, producer, and cultural icon, driven by an unwavering commitment to artistic excellence. My journey extends beyond performance; it is a mission to shape the future of the creative sector, champion women's empowerment, and advocate for human rights through the transformative power of the arts. With every role I play on stage, on screen, and in leadership, I am not just telling stories; I am building legacies.
My journey into the performing arts was shaped by a deep appreciation for storytelling and a commitment to excellence. I honed my craft at the prestigious Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Arts in London, where I earned my Diploma in Dramatic Arts. This rigorous training provided me with a solid foundation in classical theatre and performance techniques that would serve me throughout my career.
I further solidified my academic credentials with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Literary Studies from the University of Lagos, completed between 2009 and 2014. This blend of practical theatre training and literary scholarship equipped me with both the technical skills and intellectual depth necessary for a multifaceted career in the arts.
Recognizing the importance of business acumen in sustaining a creative career, I also earned a Certificate in Entrepreneurship from the FATE Foundation in 2017, demonstrating my commitment to not only creating art but also building sustainable institutions within Nigeria's creative economy.
Since 1981, I have carved a successful path across various platforms, including theatre, film, television, and radio. My career is a testament to my ability to bring complex characters to life with depth and authenticity. Over the years, I have had the privilege of collaborating with some of the most respected directors in the industry, delivering powerful performances in films that have garnered critical acclaim worldwide.
As a consummate stage performer, I have graced some of the most prestigious theatres in Nigeria and internationally, bringing to life powerful narratives that challenge, inspire, and educate. My theatrical works have traveled across continents, cementing my reputation as a leading force in African theatre.
Beyond the screen and stage, I have played a pivotal role in the evolution of Nigeria's creative arts industry. As co-founder of the Lufodo Group with my husband, Olu Jacobs, I have dedicated myself to developing and sustaining Nigeria's performing arts sector through production, education, and infrastructure development.
The Lufodo Group encompasses Lufodo Productions, the Lufodo Academy of Performing Arts (LAPA), and Glover Memorial Hall by Lufodo. Through these initiatives, I have provided emerging and established talents with the skills, platforms, and resources needed to thrive. Lufodo Productions has curated Nigeria's artistic expression at the 2012 Olympics and spearheaded the Nigerian Creative Arts Exchange in Paris in 2018.
Glover Memorial Hall, once a historic venue, now stands as a vibrant cultural hub—a sanctuary for creativity where stories are told, talents are nurtured, and the rich tapestry of our heritage is celebrated on stage and beyond.
Through the power of storytelling and the weight of experience, I have embraced advocacy and leadership as an extension of my craft. Beyond the stage and screen, my voice resonates in the fight for social justice, gender equality, and the growth of the arts. I have used my platform to challenge norms, inspire change, and shape a more inclusive and thriving creative industry.
I serve as Chairman of the Board of Trustees at the Centre for Contemporary Arts (CCA) in Lagos, and as a Board Member of the Lagos State International Theatre Festival. I was appointed Chairman of the Lagos State Post-COVID-19 Pandemic Review Committee, where I helped shape recovery strategies for the creative sector.
As a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador Against Trafficking in Persons, I leverage my platform to raise awareness about human trafficking and advocate for victims' rights. I am also Vice Chairman of the AART of Life Foundation, an Ambassador for the Nigerian Women Trust Fund, and serve on the boards of the Savannah Centre for Democracy, Diplomacy & Development and LIMGE (Leadership Initiative for Good Governance & Empowerment).
I am the Founder and President of the Nigerian Chapter of Women in Film & TV and Other Screen Media, working to create opportunities and amplify the voices of women in the entertainment industry.
Every award and honor I have received is more than just recognition—it is a reflection of the journey, the passion, and the relentless pursuit of excellence that defines my career. I am a five-time Africa Movie Academy Award (AMAA) winner, recipient of the SOLIDRA Award for Performing Arts, and the Best of Africa Award.
In 2014, I was honored with Nigeria's National Award as a Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR), recognizing my contributions to the nation's cultural heritage and creative economy.
From the moment I embraced storytelling as my life's work, I understood its power to shape perspectives, preserve culture, and inspire change. Over the years, I have not only pursued my passion but have also nurtured it in others, guiding young talents as they find their voices and step into their own. Through mentorship and education, I am helping to build a new generation of storytellers who will carry our narratives to the global stage. Their success is my greatest legacy.
